Send to email | AECT in Orlando in News | By Trey Martindale el 06-Nov-2008 | Last week I participated in the AECT annual convention in Orlando. I’ve been an active AECT member for about ten years, and this has been my “conference of choice” for many years. It is the one I look forward to the most, primarily because of the people involved. The program is always pretty good, and I can find sessions of interest and relevance. But because AECT attendance is relatively small (about 900), it is fairly easy to make personal connections, build relationships, and find people to enjoy dinner with.
We were back in Orlando this year, which some members love and some loathe. The world of Disney is a consistent draw for those deciding which convention to attend. I think we are considering meeting here again in about three years, and I would not be surprised if Orlando was a frequent, regular destination for our convention. This is particularly true since we are simultaneously sponsoring the International Student Media Festival, which brings in lots of kids and parents, which means Disney nearby is important.
David Wiley and I roomed together, which made the conference all the better. Note to self: hang around smart people and ask them lots of questions.
I had four presentations, so maybe I’ll write about them soon. Must grade papers now.
