Robotic F.A.C.E. This is an older project from MIT, but I think it is still very relevant. Robotic F.A.C.E. or “Facial Alerting in a Communication Environment” is an interesting project that tried to relay human emotion via a simple, and cheap, toy. You may not be able to get this exact toy anymore, but there are plenty [...] [..] |

More demanding plants: "Florakel" It seems like plants may be the next “robots” when it comes to taking over our world. We saw the Twitter Plant in a previous post. This version is a bit simpler, but it gets some of the same information across to the owner. By using a series of RGB LED’s, the plant can tell [...] [..] |

| Showcase: Augmented Ecologies This project uses a variety of sensors, Max/MSP, Jitter, and an Arduino to create an interactive virtual environment. I like the augmented plants. When the user touches the plants they create different types of musical notes. Another favorite part is the pressure sensitive moss. There is a lot more information and pictures on the website.

The iDeal: Robotic poker dealer This robotic card dealer was made for a school project. Although it is a bit slow, it has a really nice natural “flick” to the cards. I am sure it could deal the cards faster with some tweaks.
Introducing the “iDeal”. It’s the worlds best automatic poker dealer! Perfect for your home poker games and fits [...] [..] |
