This project is for those of you that want to explore communications via LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites. You can manually point your antenna, but a micro-controller makes it a whole lot easier.
The basis for operation is fairly straightforward. A tracking program (WiSP, Nova for Windows, The Station Program, and DK1TB’s SatPC32 program are all known to work) sends data in the EASYCOMM data format out a standard serial port to the SAEBRTrack unit. The Parallax BASIC Stamp 2 decodes the azimuth and elevation information sent by the tracking program, and the array is positioned.

| Phone home from the middle of the Atlantic with the Elektrobit Satellite phone | Sure, satellite phones are relatively common these days, but something like this certainly deserves a second look. The Elektrobit Satellite handset is probably the dopest satellite phone we’ve ever seen. For starters, this thing runs a full version of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, sporting the requisite touchscreen interface to complement its software. | On Comes the Next Satellite Failure |
In recent history, there have been three major players that have launched their own handset-centric satellite phone services from the ground up, owning and operating the satellites themselves along with with Land Earth Stations that communicate with them. The two global services, Iridium and Globalstar, filed for bankruptcy not long after. The third would likely [...] [..] Read complete article | | Published 05-Apr-2008 by Zach Epstein in ServicesHandsets Read 13 times. More hits in |
