 The good news for GE: After a shocking miss in Q1, the company met profit goals and beat revenue expectations in Q2. The bad news for Jeff Zucker: NBC U missed its targets again.
Revenues for the segment were up 7% y/y, to $3.88 billion. But the last quarter te company had predicted growth of about 10%. And operating profits were up 1%, to $909 million. But GE had told investors to expect 5% growth.
No explanation from GE on the miss in the earnings release:
'NBC Universal had its seventh straight quarter of segment profit growth with an increase of 1%. A strong Cable performance offset weakness in local media. We have a
successful slate of movies that will benefit us in the second half of the year for which we have already incurred marketing costs. The Olympics are on track to generate $1 billion in advertising revenue and $700 million of GE industrial sales,' Immelt said.
We'll listen in to the 8:30 conference call and report back with any additional info.
