Wow, not sure we expected this one. According to a video shot during the roadmap portion of an MWg presentation, Q4 of this year will bring with it the first crop of Windows Mobile 7 devices. This of course makes absolutely no sense given the time line between 6.1 and 7, but we suppose crazier things have happened. The presenter neglects to delve into the specs in depth, but his visual aid speaks for itself. Here’s a breakdown of the roadmap for those of you who are too lazy to click through and watch the video:
- Q3 2008
- MWg Rici - 12.5 mm thick, Windows Mobile 6.1, 3 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.2 Mbps HSUPA connectivity
- Q4 2008
- MWg Flame II - Windows Mobile 7, 3.5″ touchscreen display, advanced multimedia features, 3.2 megapixel camera and integrated GPS
- MWg Iris - Touchscreen device with slider form factor and QWERTY keyboard, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.2 HSUPA connectivity and integrated GPS
- MWg Graphite II - No specs available
- MWG Walk PC - Connected UMPC / tablet with Vista OS and integrated 3G radio
- Q1 2009
- MWg Atom IV - Windows Mobile 7, 7.2 HSDPA and 5.2 HSUPA connectivity, 3.2 megapixel camera and integrated GPS
- MWg Vix - Windows Mobile 7, 12.5 mm thick, "new" QWERTY slider "for better messaging experience", 3.2 megapixel camera and integrated GPS
Whether or not MWg is able to push Windows Mobile 7 out during this calendar year, it looks like the Expansys-owned manufacturer has some pretty hot devices in store for us.
