Send to email | Samsung Alias 2 to be available May 11th from Verizon Wireless in 1xRTTCDMAEV-DOHandsetsRumorsSamsungVerizonAliasAlias 2feature phoneU740U750verizon wireless | By Kelly Hodgkins el 01-May-2009 |
The Samsung SCH-U750, or Alias 2, is now rumored to be coming to Verizon Wireless on May 11th. It will share the same dual-hinged design as its predecessor, the U740, but will replace the QWERTY/numeric keyboard with a dynamic keyboard. We’ve covered this odd little handset before but it really does bear repeating as one feature in particular has some definite potential — the keyboard. This novel electronic ink-based keyboard will display a standard numeric keypad when the phone is opened as a traditional portrait clam shell. Use the dual hinge to flip the phone open in landscape however, and the keyboard will switch to a texting-friendly QWERTY keyboard. The Alias 2 will also feature a 2.6-inch QVGA internal display, 2.0 megapixel camera, proprietary feature phone OS laden with Verizon customizations and dedicated hot keys for one-touch access to Bluetooth, text messaging, voicemail, camera, voice commands, games and alarms.
No pricing yet but expect it to launch with a price tag consistent with Verizon’s other feature phones - $200 to $250 before rebates and NE2 discounts (with the obligatory 2-year contract, of course). Hit the jump for a few preview shots of the dynamic keyboard.
